State of Senior Fitness in 2023

The Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) released its 2023 State of the Industry Report, which analyzes the trends and issues affecting the sports and fitness products business, including participation, economic performance, and the industry environment. According to the report, the senior fitness industry is experiencing growth as the baby boomer generation ages. The report also highlights that relatively few big players are vying for the older adult market. Most of the competition comes from boutiques such as Pilates and Yoga and from cycling studios.

In addition, a blog post on the ICAA (International Council on Active Aging) website states that some parts of the health and fitness industry are strategically designed to support only people who are at the athletic end of the functional spectrum and providing services to already active “competent exercisers” seems to have fueled most industry growth over the past decade. However, with the aging population, this trend is expected to change.

Another article on Forbes highlights that as baby boomers age, many companies focus on helping seniors stay fit. Virtual and augmented reality allows working out from anywhere, at any level, as seniors’ bodies change and people face age or health-related limitations.

At Senior Fitness Finder, we work to be a leader in Senior fitness, helping to connect seniors with gyms and trainers so that seniors can age actively and in place.
